Send An Email To Your Elected Representatives |
IMPORTANT - Go Here First and Send off your Mandate to the local and state governments. Don't Hesitate - Do this NOW. Firstly, If YOU can help with more ideas or with your time, I would be very grateful. I have been assured that the first step in getting action on this matter is first to make our elected representatives aware of how we, the public, feel about having fluoridated water forced upon us. Apart from the petition that you can sign, which can be found in local businesses in Hervey Bay and Maryborough, you can send the following email to various politicians. Below is a suggested letter that you can copy & paste into an email message. There is also a list of email addresses to send this message to. The more politicians you send the email to, the more they will know we are serious about this matter. Please don't forget to put your name and address at the bottom of the letter . There are Two ways to do this depending on how you have your computer set up. 1) If you use an email program like Outlook or similar, then click on the links below this paragraph. They will (should) open up a new message complete with contacts and a subject line. There are two lists of emails (as they wouldn't all fit into one). Then all you have to do is copy & paste the letter into the body of the message. Don't forget to put your name & address at the bottom! Send 1st email. 2) If you use Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo or similar, then you can add the addresses listed below individually into the 'bcc' section of the address section. Then add the subject line: My right to refuse fluoridation of the Fraser Coast water supply And copy & paste the letter below into the body of the email message. Again, please add your name & address at the bottom. EMAIL ADDRESSES All Councillors and Mayor of the Fraser Coast Regional Council - All-Councillors@frasercoast.qld.gov.au Paul Lucas, MP for Lytton, Deputy Premier and Attorney-General, Minister for Local Government and Special Minister of State - lytton@parliament.qld.gov.au SUGGESTED TEXT Dear Councillors, Elected Representatives, Premier Anna Bligh and Members of the Queensland Parliament. As a concerned resident of the Fraser Coast, I wish to voice my rejection of the fluoridation of the water supply in this region. I am aware of the source of fluorosilicic acid, being a toxic waste product of the superphosphate fertiliser and aluminium smelting industries. I am also aware that fluorosilicic acid contains variable amounts of various heavy metal and other elemental contaminants between batches. (www.fluoridealert.org/phosphate/overview.htm). Fluoride is being added to water in Queensland as a defence against dental caries yet Research is now raising doubts about fluoridation's effectiveness. Data compiled by the World Health Organization shows tooth decay has declined at a similar rate in all Western Countries, irrespective of each country's water or salt fluoridation status (www.fluoridealert.org/WHO-DMFT.htm). It has been revealed to me that people with normal kidney function are able to eliminate about half of the fluoride they ingest in regions with fluoridated water. The remainder is absorbed in teeth and in the bones. People with reduced kidney function are able to remove even less from their bodies. Excessive fluoride build-up in either the teeth or bones can lead to fluorosis. This is an unacceptable risk that I am not willing to take. Both the ADA (American Dental Association and CDC (Center for Disease Control) in the USA recommend that infants do not ingest fluoridated water as it may lead to fluorosis of their developing teeth before they erupt. How can you supply water to all then expect that a proportion of the population avoid drinking this same water? There are also many people in our aging populations here on the Fraser Coast that have full dentures. Surely these people also don’t need fluoride? Recent studies by several eminent researchers strongly suggest that fluoride works primarily by topical means through direct action on the surface of the teeth via toothpaste, or gels used in dental treatments (www.slweb.org/bibliography.html see: XIII, 'topical versus systemic effects'), (Centers for Disease Control {CDC}1999 and 2001). Ingestion of fluoride through drinking fluoridated water is not essential nor effective for caries reduction. We, the ratepayers of the Fraser Coast Regional Council, will be paying for the ongoing fluoridation costs as stated by Peter Scott, Chief Executive of Wide Bay Water in the Fraser Coast Chronicle (10th December 2010) (http://www.frasercoastchronicle.com.au/story/2010/12/10/fluoride-takes-bite-of-budget/). 'It’s going to cost $150,000 a year in operating costs,' Mr Scott said. 'That will have to go into the water prices.' Surely this money can be better spent on better dental education and perhaps discounted toothpaste for disadvantaged families. In the same Fraser coast Chronicle article, Mr Scott goes on to say in relation to the mandatory addition of fluoride to the water, 'I also understand there are people in the community who have a different view and we’re a democracy, so that’s allowed.' But it would seem that in this current democracy we are not allowed to choose whether we are mass medicated or not. The argument that may help you to stop this fluoridation is that fluoride is a medication. Being a medication, it needs to have TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration) approval before it can be administered. Fluorosilicic acid does not have TGA approval, in fact there are no toxicity studies referenced on the material safety data sheet of fluorosilicic acid, which leads me to beileve that none have been carried out. Therefore fluoridation with fluorosilicic acid cannot be regarded as being safe as per the requirements of the Queensland Government Water Fluoridation Bill 2008 quoted below: Division 2 - Object In summary, I strongly reject the notion that placing a chronic poison in our water supplies is clever preventive medicine and I call upon you to stop the fluoridation of the Fraser Coast water supply before it starts. Yours sincerely. Name..................................... Address.................................. |
