Bowen Therapy (Bowtech) is Unique

Tom Bowen is one of the worlds greatest healers. Scores of people from near and far lining up outside his door were a testament to his unique abilities. We are lucky that he chose to pass on his knowledge to a select few students of his work. We are luckier still to have Ossie & Elaine Rentsch pass on his skills to those who wish to learn it.

One of the messages that rung out loud and clear from his teachings was to keep Bowen Therapy pure; not to mix it with any other modality. Mixing it only makes it weaker. An analogy is like carefully crafted instructions for the body to heal itself being wiped off a chalk-board. This is why I practice the Original Bowen Technique in my clinic. Nothing more and nothing less. I must confess to having experimented with a blend of massage and Bowen in the past but I quickly gave it away as it wasn't anywhere near as effective as Pure Bowen Therapy.

Bowen Therapy is unique in the field of bodywork. Its relatively few, gentle yet powerful "moves" over muscle and other soft tissue address the whole body, stimulating it to reset and heal itself. The healing may occur at any or all levels as needed: physical, chemical, emotional, mental, energetic, etc.

If you have never experienced Bowen Therapy before, it can seem odd at first. I must admit to feeling like I had wasted my money after my first session but after feeling the relief from my incessant back ache the next day, I was a convert.

A Bowtech session consists of several series of gentle moves performed with the thumbs and fingers through light-weight clothing (or on skin). To receive a treatment, the client usually lies on a massage table or, for comfort, in a chair. However, Bowtech can be applied anywhere -- on the sports field, in a hospital room, at the site of an accident, on an airplane or train.

Bowen Therapy in Action

A session may be as short as fifteen minutes but more commonly up to an hour. Results using the Bowen Technique are remarkable.  Most often, a surprisingly few sessions are needed to alleviate long-standing complaints, whether structural or functional.  And the results hold for a long time, generally until there is a re-injury.

Bowtech is completely safe and appropriate for everyone from newborns to the very elderly and frail. Highly trained athletes and pregnant women benefit equally, each according to need.  Bowtech is unique in that it does not force the body into alignment, instead, it assists the body to do the necessary healing work.

Bowtech is neither derived from nor similar to any other hands-on modality. The mechanisms of action are still not completely understood, but it is generally agreed that it works primarily through the nervous system on both structural and energetic levels. Healing most likely occurs through the response of the body's autonomic nervous system to the Bowtech moves.

Simply stated, Bowtech allows the body to reset and heal itself. The work consists of several series of gently rolling, connective tissue moves. There are frequent important pauses between sets of moves, which give the body time to benefit from each set. By selecting appropriate combinations and sequences of moves, the practitioner is able to address the body as a whole, and/or to target one or more specific problems. The practitioner feels for stress build-up in muscle groups and then utilises Bowen moves to release that stress.
